The Love Letters of Henry VIII to Anne Boleyn With Notes eBook King of England Henry VIII

As a fan of all things Boleyn, I had to purchase the Kindle version of these love letters.

I must, however, also add they were a little disappointing. I admired their authenticity but, for the average contemporary reader, it is still a hard read. Obviously, these letters are written in 1500s English. So you have to be patient, wade through some awkward sentence structure and some content that is quite mundane. Also, not quite as passionate as I imagined they would be.

Am I sorry I purchased it? No Way! The Kindle version was FREE.

The Love Letters of Henry VIII to Anne Boleyn With Notes eBook King of England Henry VIII Reviews

Because I have been a history teacher, I am a history buff, so I found these letters of interest, they are not a comprehensive collection, but when we know what later happened --Anne Boleyn's failure to produce the male heir so rashly promised -- they are rather poignant. Henry was pretty quick to condemn her as bewitching him and betraying him and she didn't last long at all, so reading them with all the knowledge of later events I found quite gripping. The following notes, for me, did not contribute much but could be helpful to others. Poor Anne! Henry's passionate declarations of undying love proved to be ephemeral and as always the woman was to blame for the failure to produce a son, when he was obviously already syphilitic.
A wonderful and relatively quick read, once you get through the Old English wording. I would recommend this to any history buff out there, especially if you are interested in Henry VIII.
Anne Boleyn was my favorite of wives. Sure she was pushy, but she wanted control over Henry. If only she had a son. He would have kept her even though she would not like the mistresses. Henry showed a more gentle nature to Anne until once again, a daughter was born. Poor Anne. She went to the chopping block telling her audience that Henry was a good and kind King.
This was an interesting read however, you only get one side of the conversation so it was difficult to follow what was happening. It is like listening to someone on the phone. It was very quick however and it was a free download so I didn't feel that I wasted my time or money.
Just finished reading this book and I was a little taken back by not seeing as much from Anne Boleyn herself. Almost all have been written by H.R. I was expecting to see the love between a King and a Common Woman and to feel the love that grew between them. I felt let down, but not being able to read her letters. There were maybe 2 of her letters.
I love history especially European history and the dramatic court of Henry VIII.
As the title indicates the letters are from King Henry VIII to Anne Boleyn, but there is one exception with the addition of a letter from Anne to Clergy hoping to hear good news.

Pro reading actual historically relevant documents. Learning more about language and its use during that time period.

Con The collection of letters were from a specific time and did not span the entire length of the relationship.
There are to few letters, but that is an opinion from a true lover of British history.
This smaller read I found to be a bit stiff and unenjoyable. I was thoroughly excited about downloading the book to read on my app, quickly becoming disappointed. If you are not familiar with the King Henry VIII or Anne Boleyn, then I would most definitely not recommend this whatsoever. I do remember that there is a small intro to the book, but even so, it still took me quite aback. I really have to say that although am glad that someone decided to save their letters, it isn't worth reading at length. In this format, it is also unfortunate that there is no follow through with the rest of their strange romance to the very deadly end.
As a fan of all things Boleyn, I had to purchase the version of these love letters.
